What were the short- and long term affects of hunting buffalo on Native American life?

Short term, anger and violence [ understandable ] from Native Americans. Long term [ as above ] destruction of their natural 'lifestyle' as a precursor to hegemony.What were the short- and long term affects of hunting buffalo on Native American life?
Once the buffalo herds were almost wiped out by Anglo hunters, the Plains Indians' way of life was no longer possible, so they had no choice but to rely on the American government for the means to survive. This involved them being forced onto reservations and losing title to their ancestral lands.
