Can I take out small animals with a bb hunting rifle?

So i want to get a hunting rifle but my dad will only let me get a bb gun. Can i take out small pest with a bb gun like squirrelsCan I take out small animals with a bb hunting rifle?
There is a big difference between a BB gun and an 800-1000 fps air rifle.

An air rifle with that velocity will be fine for squirrel and rabbit. I have an 800 fps .22 air rifle and regularly take squirrel and rabbit with it. I always take head shots.

Use pellets specifically made for hunting and an air rifle like you mention will be fine.

Here are links to .177 and .22 cal. hunting pellets.

Yes, I use to hunt squirrels and dove with my bb gun and it worked just fine.
800fps will kill small animals.

It is not really a humane method, unless you are really close and hit perfectly.

A high percentage will die a slow death.

Bottle caps and paper targets are better for just plinking. Using a metal gong is fun too.

Make sure you have an adequate back stop for deflected bbs.

In Canada, %26gt;500 fps requires an FAC (I do believe).

.
small birds with a pellet gun but not a bb
NO!! A bb gun is too small. A pellet gun is even too small. You need a .22. If your dad won't let you get one, wait until you're older. Sorry.
Please go around killing all the starlings and sparrows you can! Any game bigger than this and you are going to be iffy if you kill it or not. Most likely just piss it off. However, you can kill a starling or a sparrow with a bb gun and by golly, I think you should!
with a bb hunting rifle with that kind of power, yes you can kill squirrels, birds, mice, and very small game. yOu need to be pretty close though.

yet, that is not showing responsibility by killing animals just because you can.

if you are hunting to eat what you kill that is one thing, to go tromping through the woods killing small game that is another thing all together.
Any true hunter is an ethical hunter. One of the goals of a good hunter is a clean, one shot kill. To accomplish that you need to develop marksmanship skills and use enough gun to do the job effectively and efficiently. Using a BB gun to develop marksmanship is about the only thing a BB gun is good for. It is a poor choice for a hunting weapon, serving only to injure the animal in most cases.

Another point. A good hunter does not kill something simply because he can. You can hunt for food, you can hunt for trophy or game management, you can hunt for pest/varmint control. You should not be hunting just because you want to kill something.
i have killed plenty of squirrels and mice with my BB guns and pelt guns just shoot um in the head or behind the head in there neck. Pointed tip pellets are fun as well.
