Nope. Can i carry a gun for my son during deer hunt if i dont have a hunting license? ?
You MUST have a license in order to hunt. True you have the right to bare arms, however, hunting itself you must have your own license for, along with a hunter safety course license depending upon your state, but you must have your own license to hunt. You can come along, but if you put a gun in your hand, you are illegally hunting, and could cary a big fat fine.
Common sense would say that you most certainly can. You cannot aid or assist him in the actual Hunting of the game itself, like trying to push or drive the Deer.* You are not actively hunting or pursuing game, all you are doing is supervising or carrying the gun for him to use.* No problem.* You are innocent, and the burden of proof lies with the Game Warden to prove that you are actually participating in hunting yourself. That would be very hard and difficult to prove in a court of law.* Former Wildlife Conservation Officer.* Good Luck, and Safe Hunting.*
I have lived in Utah my whole life, and have never heard of any game wardens even approaching hunters here. Just have a strap on the gun and carry i on your back and be holding like cleaning stuff and you wont get any trouble from them. And remember ignorance is bliss, if you are stopped insist you didnt know, and had no intention of takeing a shot any ways.
the license and tag are for hunting only. you are correct when u say you can't shoot the deer for him, but as far as i know, any US resident has the ';right to bear arms';. so if you are over the legal age in your area, u have the legal right to own and operate a firearm.
I know that in NY state you can accompany a licensed hunter but cannot carry a rifle afield if you do not have your own hunting license.

I would check with your state's Wildlife Agency. I have attached a link for Utah.
You legally can do it, but I wouldn't suggest it. It doesn't look good if you are holding a gun without a license during deer season. Kind of like if you are holding a fishing pole at a 16-and-under fishing spot.
No

You can tag along but if you do not have a license you better not at any time have a gun in your hand
The game warden wouldn't know if you were the one hunting or not if you're carrying the gun. So, no.
no

if this activity were legal it would be too easy for poachers to take advantage of it.
nope, why does he need 2 guns anyway?

djtanner get the hell away you stupid ****.
Do not believe all the 'NO' Answers.

I am an Alaskan Certified Hunter Safety Instructor.

First, I assume in the state of Utah you are allowed to carry a rifle in the woods for target practice and wildlife protection? To my knowledge there is no law in any state that prevents a person from carrying a firearm with them in the woods. You are carrying your rifle to protect yourself and your son. Just do not hunt with it unless you have a license.

You can also carry your son's rifle. Carrying two rifles is not a legal problem. There is no law that says you cannot help another hunter bring equipment in, or, help bring game meat and parts out.

When your son spots a legal deer and is ready to take it - You should not stand there totally useless. Keep an eye on your son to be sure he is handling and firing safely, and, aim your rifle at the deer and take a bead on it. Once your kid hits that deer - ANYWHERE - it is his - and if the hit is not a solid one you should put a quick second shot in it for him. This way you two do not spend the rest of the day tracking it. Obviously, if he misses, you do not fire - just wait for him to reload and take a second shot.

When you are hunting with young people or totally novice hunters - before the hunt starts - you need to discuss how the shot is going to be taken. This is also a great thing to do for pistol deer hunters as well. Once the animal is hit (injured) it is the first shooters animal - doesn't matter a hill of beans who put the 2nd or 3rd shots into it. As a hunter you have both a legal and moral obligation to salvage the meat and take as clean a kill as possible. Young and novice hunters are not the best at tracking wounded game - they have no clue how fast and far an injured animal can go .......... and how much trouble it is going to be hauling all the meat back. Your doing yourself a favor by sending in a second shot.

Hope this helps!
