What are the most common Hunting dogs?

I am haveing too do a book report on Where the red fern growns and the report is on Hunting dogs i know alot about dogs but not hunting dogs. Can you tell me the most common hunting dogs????

thanksWhat are the most common Hunting dogs?
It depends on where you are talking about and what your definitions of ';common'; (by registration stats? by number purchased?) and ';hunting dogs'; (dogs actually used in hunting or breeds that were originally bred for hunting?) are.

Here's a list of registration numbers for AKC-recognized breeds for 2008. https://www.apps.akc.org/reg/dogreg_stat鈥?/a>

Depending on your definitions, you should be able to get the same stats for the other registering bodies (CKC, The Kennel Club of England, UKC, etc.) to get a more accurate picture.

Retrievers are not hunting dogs - at least, not by my defintion. They help the hunter by retrieving the fowl but they don't hunt down the ducks themselves and flush them out or catch them on their own. What are the most common Hunting dogs?
1

Bloodhounds

2

Retrievers

3

Pointers and Setters

all 3 of the above will be good for hunting
Depends what is being hunted

Hare...Lurcher/greyhounds

Rats and rabbits...........terriers

fox.........lurchers/foxhounds/terrier鈥?br>

these dogs are used for actual hunting

spaniels/labs/retrievers etc are used to retrieve on a hunt but not actually hunt the prey down.
Pointers, Retrievers, Hounds and possibly Blue Heelers. Good luck on your report.
It depends on the area of the country and the game being hunted.

Down south where they do more raccoon hunting and such they use more of the hound dogs. Walkers, Blue or Red Tick bloodhound and the like.

If they are hunting upland game birds you see more pointers, weimaraners, vizulas, german short hairs things like that.

Labs are very common and are classed as a sporting dog by AKC.

They are retrievers rather than pointers.
Depends on what you are hunting

If you are hunting coon as is done in Where the Red Fern Grows or cyote, bear, large cats then

black and tans

treeing walkers

blue tick

If you are talking phesant or duck

Labs

golden retrevers

german pointers

any number of setter breeds
I think the one people are more familiar with that are still actually used for hunting would be the beagle(hound). Most of the others do not do the job they were born to do,.
Pointers , Retrievers, Spaniels.. Hounds..
Well Labs are number one for ducks, then you've got coon dogs and terriers are squirrel hunters, walkers and beagles deer dogs also rabbits, feists are squirrel dogs also. You have pointers for quail and other ground birds.
spaniels,setter,hounds( beagle,foxhound,basset,) retrievers ,pointers
