i have been looking for the best rifle for coyote hunting but can also be used as a deer rifle. thanks to anyone who answersWhat is the best rifle for coyote and deer hunting?
IMO a 30-06 or .270 is going to be your best bet for deer and yotes. I shoot a Remington 700 .270 with a Bushnell Elite 3200 5-15X40 which is a perfect deer and yote setup for me.What is the best rifle for coyote and deer hunting?
I'd go for .243 Winchester caliber, essentially a smaller bullet in a ';necked down'; .308 shell casing. Shoots flatter. Less drop at a distance, makes scope adjustments easier. If you had more experience, I'd say .308 Winchester. If you want more power, the .270 Winchester Short Magnum is one sick round, very high velocity. More power than the .308 Winchester. I have tried it, but don't own it (yet) I have owned .308's and presently a .243. I like compact, short action rifles. If you didn't want a deer rifle, I'd also suggest .22-250 Remington, another high velocity round.
A .308 will be good for both game. .308s are a very popular round for deer. As long as you can properly place a shot, you won't have to worry about the deer getting away. .308s pack a lot of power. They can be used to hunt boar, elk, black bear and moose at close range.
Coyotes only need a .223 to be taken down. But since you can't eat the meat, overkill isn't an issue, unless you're saving the pelts. If you're not, a .308 will work wonderfully. It's basically a guaranteed kill- assuming you know where to shoot.
If your budget can stand around $1200, the Kimber 84 in 257 Roberts would be close to ideal for what you're looking for. Great varmint caliber that'll do for deer, and better than the smaller bores. The only company I can think of that chambers the quarter Bob routinely is Ruger, if you're on a more restricted budget.
Having been down that route and compared them over the past few decades, I've decided that if people really paid attention to this cartridge, there wouldn't be more than a few dozen 243's/6mm's sold in any given year. The old boy just has that little bit extra, and it's very friendly to handloaders.
Any rifle chambered in the .243 win. would do just great. you can buy 55 grain bullets for coyotes and 100 grain for deer. and the small hole it makes, makes it perfect for varmints to save the pelts. remington m700
is a great rifle. or if you live in the states and prefer the semi auto, panther arms or any ar style rifles are fast enough for varmints and rugged enough for deer. but the .243 is a great cartridge for both deer and coyotes
My first centerfire rifle was a Remington Model 7400 .243, my dad bought it for my 12th birthday. I killed my first deer with it. This rifle is unbelievably accurate for an autoloader, it likes the Federal Premium 85gr. Barnes TSX. It has served me very well in the field for 28 years. It now belongs to my 9 year old son, he shoots it with with extreme confidence, he killed his first deer this past season. The point is the .243 Win. in an awesome caliber, you do not need anything more for ANY deer, black bear, antelope or coyotes. I believe in it so much that I bought myself another .243 Win, a Remington Model 700 VLS. Spend some time behind it and it will not let you down. When the moment of truth arrives, with a well placed shot, your deer will drop as though lightning hit him. .243 Win is an amazing round. Light recoil and tremendous energy at long ranges. I once argued with my uncle about how much better the .30's were, but did not realize until later how ignorant and arrogant I was. But, I was young and did not know any better. You should know that Hornady makes a Light Magnum 100gr round that will take deer with the minimum 1000 ft lbs of energy at over 400 yards, close to 450. Let us all take a realistic account, not many will take shots over 300. The .243 can do it, if you can do your part. I say you will kill more deer at greater ranges because it shoots way flatter, it is a more inherently accurate round and more importantly has plenty of energy. The .243 load above is 6.4 inches low at 300, with a 200 zero. Yes, the .243 Win does a fine job on varmints, but that only speaks of its overall flexibility and capability. Bigger holes do not always mean a dead deer. I have seen more deer carry a .30-06 than any other caliber, because everyone has one. And not everyone who has one can shoot it well enough to do the job.
Definitely the .243 caliber. It is considered the ';triple threat'; (small game, big game, and competition) of rifle rounds. Just adjust for what you are going to use for by picking the appropriate bullet weight.
A rifle chambered in .270 or .308 would be fine......
The .270 shoots a little flatter but the .308 can be had in bulk cheaper if you plan on target shooting a bit.....

Consider a Remington 700 SPS......

Best rifle or best caliber? I'd go with a Remington 700 BDL chambered in .270, excellent ballistics for long range shooting without the recoil of a magnum. Great for deer hunting. You can kill coyotes with just about anything.
Marlin XL7 .270 with Bushnel 3x9-50 scope.
.243,264,270 or great choices. A 30-06 is too if you find those 55gr accelerator bullets or just use regular bullets,,but, 30-06 is overkill for yotes.
308 will be your best choice but good optics will be needed to the coyote is smaller than the deer and will be more weary than the deer so a longer shot may need to be taken.
30-06 you can get 55 gr accelerator for coyotes and 150 gr for deer.
my truck has taken more deer and coyotes than any rifle i have
either the .243 or the 25-06 are great for both animales.
For both a 30-06 is your best choice.

Do lots of Sportsman Shows - seems to be the most productive because it takes that personal touch to close the sale.
Maybe a presentation with prizes or such at Sportsmans type club meetings? Sponsor a Turkey shoot event for a skeet club? Youth Gun safety events? Spend time making contact with local independent sports/gun shops?
I'm just ';Brainstorming'; some here . .

What is a good compound bow for deer hunting?
ive never had a compound before, and i am getting bored with my crossbow. Im looking for models, draw weight reccomendations and just general size advice. Also prices for bows used would be nice, if i get one it probably wont be newWhat is a good compound bow for deer hunting?
Buy a used one at your local archery shop that they took on a trade in. This way you will save money, and the shop can make sure it fits you,(draw length and draw weight ) and sell you the accessories that go with it that you may need. Plus, they will let you shoot the bow to see if you like it. Good luck! What is a good compound bow for deer hunting?
Ive been bow hunting for 5 years and have bought 3 used bows all for under 150 each. I know alot of people will disagree with me but i have never had any problems with them. I can shoot a tighter grouping from 30 yards with my $130 darton compound than four of my buddies with brand new mathews bows. I figure unless your doing it for competitions and tournaments any thing over $250 for used bows your just paying for the name. I have done side by side comparisons with an $800 mathews and my $150 Oneida and found the cheap one just felt much better. Your bow has to fit you perfectly if you want to be consistent. You need to pick it up and pull it back and think ';wow, that's comfy.'; As for the draw weight, my bows are all set at 60lbs. some guys will tell ya its got be 70 or 80 but unless you have a 90% let off at full draw, good luck. I believe the legal draw for my state is 35lbs. That's what my girlfriends is set at and she took her first deer at 40 yards last year with a full pass through. Overall, get what feels good to you. Shoot it at the store at least 20 times to get a feel for it. And dont overlook the used bows.
I too have a PSE Nova. Mine is set at 52 pounds with a 27'; draw. I am a leftie, I bought mine used, had it tuned at an outfitters, I have a whisker biscuit arrow rest, Alpine 5 arrow quiver and a tru-glo 3 pin sight and a carrying case, all for less than $400.00.
My husband has a PSE Vengeance. This is a parallel limb bow. 7 1/2 risers, single cam. 65 pound draw weight with a 30'; draw length. He too has the whisker biscuit with a 4 pin tru-glo sight, and a 7 arrow Alpine quiver. He uses a Tru-fire caliber release He uses 32'; Carbon Express 60-70 arrows at about $5.00 each. I use the 50-60 Carbon Express, I think mine are 29';, they cost just a bit less. I use a tru-fire stalker custom release.
All of these things can be found at Cabela's except the Vengeance, PSE doesn't make that now any longer.
Here's a picture of one: http://cgi.ebay.com/Bow-PSE-Vengeance-RH鈥?/a>
all the different numbers (draw weight, distance, etc.) are going to depend on you, your size, and your strength...
once you know what you're comfortable with... your best bet is a used bow... in your price range, of course. Your best bet is going to be eBay... I bought a competition target shooting bow for 850, and although that may sound steep, keep in mind I got about 2300 bucks worth of accesories for almost a third the cost!!!
i have a pse nova set at 65lbs with 30 inch draw and am very happy with it! cost me less than 500 with all accessories new! check out pawn shops or see if your archery shop might have used bows. smaller compact bows are better to manuever in tight spaces, like tree stands. 45lbs or better is what i recommend for deer, thats the min requirement in my state. hope this helps. bear, pse, mathews, browning all good brands
You might wanna take a look at livenyx.com. It is a blog on archery and I think there is a store where you can look at its merchandise. Should have what you are looking for at a lower price.wrinkles

Tips for hunting coyotes in the southerntier in new york.?
i've been hunting a few times and haven't seen or heard anything. i hunt near a farm where there are medium size fields and woods, and brushy areas.Tips for hunting coyotes in the southerntier in new york.?
Have you tried using calls %26gt; e.g . wounded rabbit etc??
Have you tried baiting them ??
We use various methods here where i hunt. From hunting over a deer carcass n gut pile to using an wounded rabbit decoy and calls.Tips for hunting coyotes in the southerntier in new york.?
Cottontail distress, Jackrabbit distress, wounded woodpecker, coyote pups... All are good methods however you'll have the best luck when using an electronic call. www.gofoxpro.com
If using mouth calls: Call for 30 minutes call in two minute sequences starting with quiet calling to attract any close ones and work it up to a loud distress. With electronic calls like the one I linked you'll just use the remote controller about 50 yards from where you sit and click play.
distress calls work best this time of year. set up somewhere you have a good view because when using distress call 95 percent of time they will try to get down wind of you to check things out. use howler in the springtime now it will spook them more often than not
I had great luck using a wounded cotton tail rabbit call. I use a Primos brand call. I usualy call for 2 min. and wait 3 min. till I start calling agian. After about 15-20 minutes, I move on to a new spot. Just make sure you spot them before they spot you. Remember, you're hunting a hunter.

I'm hunting for a new job. How will my chances be affected by saying I'm going travelling for 3months next Sep?
btw. I already have a job. I just don't like it. Do I stick to it and resign before traveling or go for the upfront approach with potential new employers? I work in the Travel industry at what would be described as middle management level...I'm hunting for a new job. How will my chances be affected by saying I'm going travelling for 3months next Sep?
Either look for a long term temp position, or stick it out at your current company. No new company is going to be thrilled to hear that you'll be leaving just as you've reached a point of competency in training. Also, no company is under any obligation to hold a job open for you when you return from your travels. You'll just be starting your job search over again when you return from your trip.
